Scales are a crucial part of learning an instrument because they require you to master many musical skills simultaneously. They’re also really helpful because they help you to become familiar with music in all keys. Scales are the building blocks of melodies, and along arpeggios and interval studies, they allow you to master playing any song.

If you’re just starting out, I suggest you use the link for one octave versions. Advanced players should refer to the 1 and 2 octave versions.

.Regardless of what scale you are learning, it is important that you go very slowly when you first are learning a scale. Double check the notes in that key, based on its key signature. Verify with a tuner that you are playing all of the correct notes. Then begin to play the scales with a metronome. Be very precise at a very slow tempo – when you start the tempo should be slow enough that you have time to think before each note. Only build up speed when the scale starts to feel really easy. It is much more important to develop the muscle memory for the scale’s patterns in tempo than it is to rush through it.
