Tuner and metronome apps are incredibly important in developing as a musician. In music, we’re often aiming for accuracy and precision. Our goal is to recreate the music on the page or in our head. It’s like trying to hit the bullseye on a dart board. Both tuners and metronomes help us to identify how far we are from hitting that bullseye.
Brass instruments are not cheap. Luckily, with regular maintenance, the instruments will be in great condition for decades. It’s probably best to bring your instrument for a good cleaning and check up about once a year with a trusted repair person. For brass instruments, they’ll give it a deep clean, make sure everything is in alignment, and replace the few parts that do wear out over time, like spit valve corks. In between these sessions, maintaining your brass instrument is actually pretty easy.

Scales are a crucial part of learning an instrument because they require you to master many musical skills simultaneously. They’re also really helpful because they help you to become familiar with music in all keys. Scales are the building blocks of melodies, and along arpeggios and interval studies, they allow you to master playing any song.
